I am a Latina originally from East San Jose and also the first in my family to go to college. I got my Bachelor’s degree from San Josѐ State University in Journalism and a Master’s degree in Education from Stanford. I started this blog because I didn’t have many role models who looked like me growing up.
This blog is dedicated to other Latinas, especially first-generation, low-income Latinas from East San Jose.
It has taken me a long time to be vulnerable but now I want to share my challenges and my growth with others.
Currently, I am the mother of two beautiful girls ages five and seven and have been married to my husband, Kyle for over 10 years. I am also a full-time working mom (which really means I have two full-time jobs.) I work as a counselor and instructor at a community college and have worked in education for over 10 years. I love my career and I love my family and at my core my mission is to help others to reach their goals in life.
This blog is titled ÚNICA because it is my journey to becoming my own authentic self. The blog is about how I have learned to celebrate my own individual uniqueness and embrace it. In sharing my stories I hope to encourage others to do the same!
